The Benefits of Commercial Lawn Mowing for Your Business
The benefits of commercial lawn mowing for your business are many. If you own or manage a commercial property, you know how important image is. One of the things that can adversely affect your business’s appearance is the lawn. An overgrown, weed-patched lawn with bushes running wild is not attractive, and whoever your business caters to, an unattractive lawn can turn them away.
The Benefits of Commercial Lawn Mowing for Your Business
Why Not Just DYI?
Of course, you and your team can mow your lawn, but doesn’t it seem like there’s always something more urgent than mowing the lawn? Suddenly, your property hasn’t been cut for three weeks in June, and it may be time to harvest the grass rather than mow it, LOL!
At Berger Hargis, we mow your commercial lawn weekly starting in May and do much more than mow. We set our blades at 3.5 to 4 inches. Did you know that cutting the lawn to this height hinders weed germination? That’s partly why it’s critical to mow weekly. Not only does this height discourage weeds, but it’s also good for the grass.
“For lawn turf areas, you should be mowing as high as practically possible, meaning 3+ inches or almost as high as many commercial mowers will allow. This will provide a greater leaf surface area for the manufacture of plant foods while also promoting the deepest possible rooting.” — Purdue Extension — Summer Mowing and Fertilization
Little things like a dull mower blade can become a big problem. “Mower blades should be examined a few times throughout the growing season and may need sharpening as much as four to six times a year. Dull mower blades rip the grass blades rather than cutting them cleanly. This leaves ragged leaf tips that give the turf a whitish cast when viewed across a distance. Ripping the grass leaves the turf damaged and very susceptible disease pathogens to penetrate and infect the plant.” — Turfgrass Science at Purdue.edu. At Berger Hargis, our blades are always sharp.
Weekly Mowing, Disease Control , and More
- At Berger Hargis, weekly mowing includes line trimming around trees, beds, drives, walks, and other obstacles. It also includes blowing loose clippings back into the yard.
- We use commercial-grade mulching mowers that restore nutrients, promoting a healthy lawn.
- We also keep a close eye on the health of your lawn. For example, did you know that applying a fungicide every three weeks beginning in the middle of May will help stop summer disease on Bluegrass?
There are so many different types of turf diseases, many with similar symptoms, that unless you know the grass, disease, and best remedy, it can quickly get away from you and destroy your lawn and your image.
