A Storm, a Dinner, and a Team
This blog post is about a storm, a dinner, a team, and a lot more. It’s about a commitment to excellence. It’s about caring for one another. And it’s about a way of living. Last Friday, I was privileged to attend an annual Berger Hargis dinner for managers. The weather forecast called for snow and severe cold. When I arrived at 6:00, the short walk from the parking garage to the restaurant was brutal. It was minus 9 with a 39 below wind chill with wind gusts up to 40 MPH. Like I said, it was brutal. Not everyone could make it. Three attendees worked most of the last 24 hours delivering supplies and assisting snow removal crews.
Choosing the Best
When asked how I choose companies I work with, my first answer is I must believe in what the company stands for and appreciate its culture. This is a perfect example of why I love working with the Berger Hargis team. It’s because they are a team from top to bottom, one that cares about each other and their clients. One of those who hadn’t slept but worked through the night was the owner/president. Teamwork starts at the top.
A Storm, a Dinner, and a Team
I don’t know if I can express how much this team cares for their staff and customers, but I can tell you it goes hand-in-hand. Only happy employees make customers happy. Not only did management staff work through the night, but volunteers were working in the artic bomb blast of cold, clearing customer lots, spreading salt, and shoveling snow from walks. This team cares. They understand that what they do is more than snow removal, landscaping, and lawn care. What they do affects people’s lives. Whether residential or commercial, the work Berger Hargis does helps people feel better, safer, and happier.
“Part of Berger Hargis’ success is providing the service our customers want but rarely receive today. Since the company was formed, Berger Hargis shares Chris and Bryan’s philosophy of providing quality, honest, reliable, and outstanding service. Service is lost in many of today’s businesses. Berger Hargis Landscape Management is the exception.” — Berger Hargis, Our Company
Many companies share fine words about service to customers and caring for employees in their mission statements. However, my experience has been that words are often shallow. That’s not the case with Berger Hargis. These words are what the company believes and delivers. It’s what the Berger Hargis team stands for. It’s what I saw in a storm, a dinner, and a team.
