‘Tis the Season
Snow Removal
‘Tis the season for snow. Snow removal, as defined by Wikipedia, is the job of removing snow after a snowfall to make travel easier and safer. While this is 100% true, I think there is a little more to it than that. You see, if you experience snow during the winter, you understand that it is much more than just a hindrance on travel. Sometimes it can be the most beautiful backdrop. Sometimes it can be the cherry on the top for the holiday spirit. Sometimes it can be the reason your kids have the best day ever! But it can also be the cause for collapsed roofs, plumbing issues, basement flooding, car problems, and much more.
This is why it is so important to stay on top of the snow. Whether your city, your HOA, or your next-door neighbor does your snow removal, it is important that you get it figured out before the blizzard comes. The last thing you want to be doing during a blizzard is trying to figure out who is going to be shoveling.
‘Tis the Season
If you’re anything like me, lists are great at keeping things short and to the point. So,
here is a list of all the different options you can consider for snow removal:
Use Stakes
- Using stakes or indicators around driveways, sidewalks, and walkways can help you see where you need to shovel after the snow falls
Invest in a Nice Shovel
- It can be tempting to buy the cheapest option, but let me tell you, a nice shovel is worth your investment. Not only will it speed up your shoveling time, but it will also save your back from a lot of added aches and pains.
Pile-up Away from the House
- Most people don’t think about this but try to avoid piling the snow near the foundation of your building, as this can result in frozen pipes or cracks in your home’s foundation
Use Ice Melt
- While this is a preventative measure, it can be very helpful on the back end as well. Ice melt can help combat the effects of snow and make your job a lot easier after the snow has fallen.
